Introducing Nevada, the ultimate in "style made easy"
Designed as a wash and wear shirt…simply wash it, dry neatly on a coat hanger and wear crumpled and relaxed. I thought of Brad Pitt “in transit” when I designed this style. You know those great airport shots of Brad with Angelina and a kid on his hip walking off a flight. He suffers from “traveller’s crumples” too but he pulls it off. This is one of my core shirt styles that I will always do. It’s got trim detail and front binding. It suits all body types although it’s a slim cut. It’s my relaxed interpretation of a classic shirt. It’s been soft washed with no fusing which gives it a deconstructed look but I included multiple layers in the collar and cuffs to give it body and structure without stiffness
A tux shirt feels commanding. You feel dressed. I love playing with how I wear a tux shirt. I’ll wear it with a bow tie and a cargo short and a loafer. It’s like the little black dress for men, an all rounder.
I thought of Matthew McConaughey when I designed this shirt. He wears a shirt exactly how I love to see a shirt worn. Untucked and the collar unbuttoned. I think the Idaho shirt is my favourite in the collection. It’s got bib front detailing which I have taken from a traditional tuxedo shirt, another favourite style of mine. I’ve used denim and chambray with this style. These are the hero fabrics for this look. I’ve used heavy denim stitching. In fact, I’ve used all the heavy denim treatments on this shirt you would usually use on a pair of jeans. There’s bleaching and enzyme washing which brings softness to the fabric. I’ve also used denim poplin. It’s an indigo dyed thread so the yarn is dyed and then it’s weaved in a way that it can be used for shirting.
This summer 2010 collection is my first collection for the Appana label. All I do is shirt. Men’s shirts have been my greatest passion in fashion. I love them ! They are one of the sexiest things a man can wear. It forms the body, defines your structure and shows off your best asset, your chest. I want to build a stable of shirt styles. I want to build Appana into the label guys will turn to because they know they will get the fit, the colours and the versatility they need. I know this because the type of guy I’m targeting is me. A 30+ bloke, successful, like’s clothes but not a fashion victim, doesn’t want too much detailing but enough to think he’s wearing something a little different. So here begins my introduction into my world of men’s shirts.....
